From: Nicole Arrigo - Acting Student Representative
Date: 02 Oct 2001
Time: 23:16:38
Remote Name: 24.25.227.132
** Note to students:
This week I attended the faculty meeting as the "acting" student representative. This position is still open and NEEDS to be filled by next week.
The faculty usually meets once per month, however they will continue weekly until the accreditation application (self-study) is completed (mid-October), or until further notice. The meetings convene on Thursdays from 12-1pm in the D-court conference room.
Responsibilities include recording the minutes and reporting the necessary information to the rest of the student body via this website. In addition, it is important that we have a representative present to show our support for, as well as retrieve information from the faculty.
This week's subject, and that of the indefinite future, was our program's Application for Accreditation to the Council on Education for Public Health. I know this is an extremely important topic for all of the students, as we all wish to graduate from an accredited "School" of Public Health. During this meeting it was made clear to me that in order for this to happen, we must all put in effort and support. This includes the students!!! This self-study is a huge project that on short notice has predominately fallen upon the shoulders of Dr. Miller and Nancy Kilonsky. I think we all know that the faculty is short-handed, especially in the area of clerical assistance. Therefore, I personally call upon all of my peers to simply offer any time you might be available to help in menial tasks that can alleviate a great deal of pressure.
That said, below you can find the actual correspondence from the CEPH from which this wonderful, as well as stress-provoking, opportunity for speedy accreditation stems (sent 9/27/01).
Dear Dr. Miller: If the self-study process for your accreditation review is proceeding on schedule, you will soon need the names and addresses of the CEPH Counsilors who will be reviewing your preliminary self-study document. Their task is essentially a reading assignment; except for the chair, none of them typically would be on your site visit team.
The purpose of the preliminary review is two-fold: it allows the Council to determine whether the self-study is sufficiently descriptive and analytical to proceed with final scheduling of the site visit on March 11 and 12, 2002, and, second, it permits the readers to make helpful suggestions about ways the final self-study may be made more useful for the visitors. The schedule allows approximately six weeks to two months for you to accommodate any revisions the readers may suggest.
On October 11, 2001, you should send your preliminary self-study and program materials to the individuals on the attached list. We will be putting your site visit teeam together shortly thereafter, so if it appears that you will not be able to make this accelerated schedule please let me know before I confirm the participation of site visitors other than Dr. Barton.
Sincerely, Patricia P. Evans Executive Director
