First Meeting of Lounge Student Reps:
10/9/01 @ 3pm (Rooms B 210 &T 213)
Present: Brandon (MS-1); Mary (MS-1); Steven (MS-2 , alternate for Kanani); Justin (MedTech); Chrystie (GS- CMB); Carrie (GS-PH, alternate for Diane)
Purpose of the Meeting was to meet one another and to begin discussion regarding furnishings for the two lounges. There was also a recognition that the optimal use of these facilities would be the responsibility of the students using them and that cooperation between all classes and individuals would need to be worked out. Chrystie (GS-CMB) stated that she felt that the graduate students she represented already had a facility at their disposal in A-Court and might not be so involved with these rooms. However, she will continue as a rep for their group and will be kept posted as things evolve.
It is expected that the two lounges will be fully operational by the end of December, well in time for Accreditation Committee arrivals in January, for the Medical School, and in March, for Public Health. In the meantime the entrance lock combination for both rooms will be changed ASAP to provide security in the Library, Study Room and Tutorial Rooms. Students will be notified, via the Bulletin Board in the Library, when the lock changes have taken place.
Discussion of B-Court Lounge needs (in order of priority). Budget was not a factor at this time but could become one later: 1. Couches (one or two): "Justin" volunteered to obtain information from the Athletic Dept regarding the source/cost of couches that some members of the group had seen and felt were nice. 2. TV and VCR/DVD: "Hank" will look into this, as well as Oceanic Cable costs and will report back with figures for cable installation and monthly charges. (This is mainly for informational use at this time.) There is already consideration of a plan for Oceanic to bring free cable TV into the two lecture rooms (T 208 & T 211) which are close to these lounges. (Since the Lounges are not primary teaching facilities, any cable costs would need to be borne by the School.) 3. Foosball game Table: "Carrie" will look into this. She saw one recently at Costco at a good price. 4. Replacement of the Rolling Chairs for the table(s) in this lounge. The chairs that are there now must be returned to the Wong Library & Study Room. 5. A Dry Erase Board around 6 ft long. 6. Another small table 7. A cabinet to store maintenance (clean-up) items for student use.
Discussion of needs in Tower Lounge -in order of priority. 1. Correct the electrical power supply to the kitchen and eating areas, as circuit breakers are now being activated with current usage of microwave ovens etc. (Note: This will be looked into on 10/11.) 2. Eliminate the assortment of large tables and replace them with 4 to 6 easily movable 48" ones that can be reconfigured, according to usage, in the eating room. Non rolling chairs would also be needed. 3. Replace the refrigerator with a larger one because of increase usage and move current refrigerator to "B-Court Lounge" to house beverages only. 4. Remove bulletin boards on the Makai wall.
Let me know of any discrepancies in the above Summary and forward your comments as well as any new information (Couches, Foosball Table etc. to the group, as well as to me, for follow up. Since meetings are often difficult to schedule let's stay in touch by email as much as possible.
