The Maternal and Child Health Bureau is sponsoring the Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP) to enhance students skills in data analysis and to provide assistance to State and local health agencies with data-related projects.
The internship projects are focused in three critical areas of MCH epidemiology:
· Data Analysis and Monitoring (11 projects):
Projects in this area involve monitoring of diseases, injuries, and health conditions for their frequency, risk factors, consequences, and health service requirements, and analysis of epidemiological data sets.
· Needs Assessment (7 projects):
Projects in this area include the systematic analysis, assessment, and projection of health needs and resources in a give population or community.
· Program Evaluation (2 projects):
Projects in this area include the monitoring, collection and analysis of data to determine the effectiveness or outcomes of a particular program or project.
Application Requirement:
Internships are available to masters and doctoral degree candidates in U.S. schools of public health in maternal and child health programs, or in related programs that involve MCH studies, who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. Also, student applicants should not graduate before the completion of their internship.
The internship is to be completed over a 12-week period, to begin in May, June, or July 2003. Interns will receive a stipend of $5000 to be disbursed over three months to cover travel to the internship site, housing and daily living expenses. Approximately 20 internship opportunities will be available in 2003.
